Confirmation

One is considered a full member of the church universally at Baptism. Confirmation is an opportunity to explore spirituality and faith. For those baptized as infants, it is an opportunity to affirm their parent's decision to have them baptized. Confirmation at Living Spirit United Church can occur at any age or stage of life. We meet with those wishing to be confirmed over a period of several months leading up to confirmation. We explore our own individual faith journeys, our church life, social justice activities, and community outreach. The journey towards confirmation is open-ended; candidates can decide at the end of the program to make a decision for or against their confirmation.

Weddings

A wedding is a day.

A marriage is a lifetime.

Weddings are an important milestone in our lives. Living Spirit United Church is honoured to respond to all wedding inquiries equally (including same-gender, trans-gender, cis-gender and differently-gendered couples). We are pleased to work with you to ensure music and service selections are appropriate and meaningful to you and God’s call to covenanted relationship. It is our hope that this spirit-filled service of worship will be a source of strength and joy as you begin your married life together.

We do not insist on a Christian commitment to be married by our minister. We do hope you will consider your relationship with God. We would welcome you to join our worshipping community as a means of strengthening your marriage relationship.

Baptism

Baptism is open to people of all ages and is a visible reminder of God’s grace. Baptism is one of two sacraments in The United Church of Canada. The second one is Communion. Baptism is one of the ways we welcome people not only to our church community at Living Spirit United Church but also to the broader Christian family. Baptism in the United Church is recognized by all Christian denominations that practice infant baptism. Similarly, if you are baptized in another church, the United Church recognizes that baptism.

Funerals

Funerals are ways to say goodbye and celebrate the life of the person you loved. As Christians, we believe that all people are loved by God. Death brings with it grief, separation and decisions that are painful. But our Christian faith and tradition enable us to witness our faith as we make final arrangements for our loved ones. The church offers a ministry of love and hopes to all who grieve. We also recognize the need to gather in the community to acknowledge the death of a loved one, to provide comfort to family and friends and to help in the grieving process. We at Living Spirit United Church seek to provide a safe, comfortable, hospitable environment where people are free to express their thoughts and feelings about their loss. Being a community committed to the Christian faith, we offer services that reflect our beliefs.
